"One of the largest traditional sectors of Outdoor is billboard advertising, with 48 sheets being the most popular. Many companies also use 96 sheets to provide greater impact at premium sites, most of which are target in densely populated catchment areas.

There are some excellent landmark sites available which have been selected due to their key locations. A great example of this would be sites located on the M4, the main route from Heathrow into the city. This is excellent for targeting both business and tourist clients. Billboards are definitely one of the most popular Out of Home advertising."

Alcohol advertising - In context

So, it is all very well designing posters to advertise and promote our product... but where to put it?
We need to make it visible to many people.
Public transport?
Bars?
Shops?
Billboards?
Bus shelters?

These are a few examples of alcohol being advertised in the public domaine.

I also need to research exactly what you can put on a poster... do the age restrictions have to be on there?  Does the % value have to be on there?

Liquid gold - Ideas - Gold bars.

For the 'liquid gold' idea, I have decided to start looking at imagery which surrounds the word 'gold'.
The first on my list is the gold bar.

There are a range of different shapes and sizes. However they all look pretty similar. Which helps in making an image which is easily recognisable.

Brothers Cider - Advertising/branding

Now Brothers Cider is a very specific brand... with a very clever advertising/branding campaign.
The target audience is clear - young people, wanting to have fun.
This is clear from the imagery, the type and the images used.

Mixing the original pear cider recipe with other flavours... playing with the young people's love of alcopops. The sans serif font adds a contemporary edge, making the drink very informal. It stands out clearly behind a bar... one glance at a bottle, even if it is a newly introduced flavour... is instantly recognisable as being from Brothers.

They also pride themselves on being a festival drink... originally having the 'Festival Strength' just for the actual festivals... but then introducing it to retailers.

Brothers originated from Glastonbury Festival... very close to the brewery itself. It is very much a family-run business, and when they introduced bottles of festival strength... they made the design a lot more personal. Adding the family name 'Showering' to the bottles... and a choice of each of the brothers names on the back.

They then introduced a load of products to spread the word. Each with a fun-feel to it, putting their name on different campaigns around the local areas.

Advertising campaigns -

There was a while where these billboards were everywhere... Bright colours and bold, crisp type makes the message very clear.

Stella Artois - Advertising campaign

This is a campaign by French beer brand Stella Artois.

This was created by a group of painters from New York, hand-painted onto the side of a brick building and changed every day. The campaign was labelled 'ritual' as it depicts the ritual of filling a glass with beer.
It lasted 3 weeks.

It is an incredibly clever campaign, it gets people interacting with the drink... always going back to see how it has changed from day to day.
